INTERESTING FACT ABOUT PRADO-TOLIMA

The town was settled by the ancient indigenous tribe called Poinco until its discovery by Gonzalo Jímenez de Quesada in 1545.It was founded on August 12th in 1781, with the name of Aldea of Nuestra Señora del Rosario de Chiquinquirá del Río Prado.It was relocated to the village that is now inhabited on land loaned by Cristobal Valdez Flórez on January 1st, 1807. At the moment, it is home to 7,607 people.

Incoming activities: In the past, fishing was one of the primary economic activities in Prado, Tolima; however, even though fish production has never occurred there, this economic activity has been declining within the reservoir. This has prompted the majority of fishing-dependent families to look for alternative forms of income, such as agriculture with rice, corn, bananas, and fruit crops, as well as livestock, poultry, and tourism.

HOW TO GET TO PRADO-TOLIMA 🚐?

-> FROM BOGOTÁ:

• Approximate cost of the ticket: $65.000 COP per person.
• Departing time: At 4:15 am, buses heading towards Prado-Tolima leave Bogotá every hour and fifteen minutes, with each bus arriving at its destination at 10:00 am. Since the afternoon bus departure timetables are scheduled based on passenger volume, they are verified in the morning.

• Approximate cost of the ticket: $27.000 COP per person

TOURIST PLACES TO VISIT IN PRADO-TOLIMA 🚣🏼‍♂️

-> CAPILLA DEL DIVISO

The story says that before the chapel was built, emerged water from a water upwelling, where the totumo tree stood out, in which the canvas or cloth that today holds the original painting resting on the main altar of the parish temple, with the image of Our Lady of Chiquinquirá, was first spotted; since this appearance, she was consecrated as the patroness of the town of Prado.

A Prado-Tolima designer constructed this massive concrete monument instead of the arc that greeted locals and visitors.Such arc has 100 years of having been built but it was replaced by a more emblematic concept which was the reflection of the main economic activities of the town.

From Prado to La Represa, there are 8 kilometers, which are totally paved. Once you get there, you can find the parking services:

• Motorcycle: it costs 6000 COP per day.
• Cars: it costs 11000 COP per day.

In case you don't have transportation, there is no problem 😎, you could find transportation which costs around $8000 COP for a trip. To board a motorcar, you’ll just have to go to one corner of the main park.

Once we arrived at La Represa, they offered us some tour. We want to clarify something here , Since this location includes many stunning locations, it is disrespectful for the agencies to offer incomplete tours; instead, choose a full-tour package.

Recommendation: Before reaching the dam, you will have to pass through a tunnel, so you must be cautious, reduce your speed, and honk before entering or listen for someone honking to reduce speed. The tunnel is very narrow and only one car can pass at a time.
